Riyadh, SPA: An official source at the Ministry of Defense has stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia joined the International Maritime Security Construct. The aim of this international alliance is to protect merchant ships through providing safe navigation to ensure freedom of maritime navigation and international trade and to protect the interests of the alliance's member countries in order to enhance the security and safety of merchant ships passing through the corridors. The International Maritime Security Construct area of operation covers Strait of Hormuz, Bab al-Mandab, Sea of Oman and Arabian Gulf. The Kingdom's accession to this international alliance comes in support of regional and international efforts to deter and counter threats to maritime navigation and global trade in order to ensure global energy security and the continued flow of energy supplies to the global economy and contribute to maintain the international peace and security.
