King chairs first meeting of KAUST Council of Trustees

E-Media:Riyadh -- Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and Honorary President of the Council of Trustees of King Abdullah University for Sciences and Technology chaired here yesterday the first meeting of the Council of Trustees of the University. During the meeting, members of the council began their work as the independent commission supervising the administration of this new world university for research which is scheduled to open its campus on 15 Ramadan 1430 H. corresponding to 5 September 2009, according to SPA.The meeting began with a recitation of verses of the Holy Quran. Then, the king delivered a speech in which he said, "Since 25 years ago, this university has been a dream which I have looking forward to achieving. Today, this dream has become a reality reflected in its goals which encompass all thoughts and cultures according to a vision compatible with the spirit of the time and a message whose goals emanate from our right religion for applying science and knowledge and cooperating in making human civilization".The king added that: "The goal we have behind establishing this university is to establish a knowledge-based economy aiming at diversifying our national economy's sources; to be a bridge for interaction between civilizations and to carry out its human message with the help of Almighty Allah and then the enlightened minds everywhere."Under the chairmanship of the king, the council approved the university's plans and strategy until 2020 and other issues pertaining to the work of the university.
