Riyadh - SPA The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Huawei Tech. Investment Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding today, in the presence of His Excellency Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al Sawahah, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Mark Xue, Deputy CEO of Huawei Tech. Investment and Huawei Global Vice President. The MOU is aimed at empowering national cadres in the Communications and Information Technology (CIT) sector, enhance entrepreneurship and innovation in CIT, which will contribute in boosting the development process and achieving the goals of Saudi Arabia Vision 2030. With a view to actively enhance investment in the development of digital skills within the Kingdom, the agreement provided for several axes, including training and qualifying national cadres in the modern ICT fields, and raising the level of digital awareness to drive the process of development and advancement in the Kingdom as well as the realization of Vision 2030. Under the MoU, MCIT and Huawei will tap a package of programs aimed at attracting youth and investment to enable them to enter the labor market in the ICT sector. Huawei will provide training opportunities for 1,500 Saudi male and female youths in various fields, in addition to opportunities for more than 5,000 stakeholders in the ICT sector by 2020. The agreement also targets creating an environment that incubates innovation and entrepreneurship, through developing an innovation center geared to supporting entrepreneurs, with a view to provide an environment conducive to competing in the provision of innovative solutions in the modern areas of technology, i.e. Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Big Data, thus putting up a fertile environment for the development and support of national talent. In this regard, Dr. Al-Thenayyan pointed out that the strategic partnership with Huawei comes within the work plan and objectives of the MCIT’s 2020 initiatives, which include building an attractive digital environment that embraces, develops and captures minds and skills in digital transformation, supports and promotes the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the ICTs and modern technologies. Al-Thenayyan also stated that investing in and empowering national cadres are key success pillars for ensuring the continued development and entrepreneurship in the Kingdom. Furthermore, he indicated that MCIT is seeking to engage in partnerships with many actors in the public and private sectors to ensure integration, cooperation and consolidation of efforts in achieving the objectives of the Vision 2030.
