The Oil Sustainability Program (OSP) was launched in 2020 with the objective of sustaining oil as a competitive source of energy and materials. The program aims to achieve its objectives through three main sectors; materials, utilities, and transportation. The program identified over ~50 opportunities, where oil provides an environmentally sustainable, economically efficient, and reliably secure global energy and material resource. The program is guided and supported by a 17-member Supervisory Committee (SC), chaired by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Saudi Minister of Energy. The OSP is the only program under the umbrella of the Supreme Committee for Hydrocarbon Materials, which is chaired by HRH the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Along with the support provided by the program’s SC member entities, the OSP works with a wide range of partners to achieve mutual objectives, ranging from ministries such as the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources to private sector players such as Aramco, SABIC, NOV, as well as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and local projects such as NEOM and Diriyah Development Gate Authority (DGDA). OSP works across the entire supply-chain and relevant ecosystems of the opportunities to close gaps and eliminate barriers facing the growth of opportunities, such as development and improvement of technologies, updating and enhancing codes and standards, and establishing and strengthening of supply-chains.
